junapojalle -- for the train boy

tuut tuut. toot toot.

junapoika kaksi vuotta! tykkäsi kovasti lahjoista ja niillä leikkimisellä. juhlimme perheen kesken. D ja S ovat kipeinä, mutta pystyivät olemaan mukana. mummi ja ukkikin moikkasi meitä. the train boy is two years old! he liked the gifts a lot and enjoyed playing with them. we celebrated with the family. D and S are sick but they were able to participate. mummi and ukki also dropped by.

ekat joulutortut! -- the first christmas pastries!

ensin leikataan, sitten laitetaan luumumarmelaadit, joista syödään puolet. first the cutting, then putting the plum marmalade and eating half of it.
raa'asta voitaikinasta he ei tykänneet. they didn't like the pastry dough at this point.
sitten ihaillaan rumpuja (oopperatalon puhuva rumpu -näytöksestä). then admiring the drums (from a talking drum at the opera house).
sitten taitokset. then the foldings.
ja lopuksi kananmunalla voiteleminen. and adding some egg on the top.

ketju -- a chain

eilen teimme ensimmäisen hieman joulumaisen askartelun. ketju on tehty valkoisesta A4 kopiopaperista. D & S leikkasi, E leikki saksilla ja minä liimasin. jo muutamasta paperista saa näin pitkän ketjun. yesterday we made our first christmas like handicraft. the chain is made out of A4 size copying papers. D & S cut, E played with the scissors and i glued. you can get this long chain from two pieces of paper.

retki -- a field trip

isänpäivänä ei otettu yhtään kuvaa... harmi. aamulla koristeltiin keittiön ikkunalauta lasten tekemillä isänpäiväkoristeilla ja syötiin baageleita. illalla isi sai kotitekoista thaimaalaista ruokaa, kakkua ja tietysti ihania askarteluja. unfortunately no pictures from the father's day! in the morning we decorated the window sill with the father's day decorations made by D & S & E and we had some bagels. in the evening daddy got some home made thai food, cake and of course some lovely arts and crafts.
näissä lempimaisemissa olimme E:n kanssa aamulla leikkimässä ja tapaamassa D:n ja S:n K1 luokkaa, joka juhlisti syksyn loppumista ja talven alkamista pikku metsä/rantaretkellään. oli kiva törmätä sattumalta muutamaan muuhunkin tuttuun! this morning E and i went to play here and meet D's and S's K1 class which had a field trip to this coast and forest to celebrate the end of the autumn and the beginning of the winter.

kotivaatteet -- home clothes

kotona voi pitää päällä mitä vain --olen siitä kuuluisa ainakin siskoni mielestä :) tästä hartiahuivista on tullut viimepäivinä ihan lempikotivaate. se lämmittää juuri sopivasti hieman koleina iltoina, on pehmeä, taipuisa, tarpeeksi väljää neulosta, ei meinaa pudota päältä, on tarpeeksi iso eli eteen saa hyvän solmun jos haluaa. viime talven löytö indiskasta. nyt ymmärrän, miksi mummoni tykkää hartiahuiveista. tällaisen voisi opetella neulomaan. sitten joskus... at home you can wear whatever you want to --i'm famous for that, at least according to my sister :) lately this shawl has become my new favorite home wear. it makes me just warm enough in the evening, is soft, flexible, loose knit enough, doesn't keep trying to fall off, is big enough so you get a good knot to the front if you want to. it was a last winter find from indiska. now i understand why my grandmother likes shawls. i would like to learn to knit this type of shawl. then, at some point...

hänen synttärit -- his birthday

ruokavalmisteluja. lapset sai heidän lempiruokiaan eli valmisruokia... some food preparations. the children got their favorites = food from the food store...

on ihanaa kun on taas kynttiläillallisten ja -aamupalojen aika. jotain valoa on saatava pimeisiin iltoihin. it's lovely that it's again time to have candle dinners and candle breakfasts. you need to get some light in this dark season.

sairaana oleville -- to everyone who's sick

viidenneltä ja kuudennelta luokalta. hassua ajatella että me oikeasti heiteltiin näitä. heti kun open = saarismatin silmä vältti :). these are from grades five and six. it's funny to think that we threw these. when ever the teacher "saarismatti" turned his head.
