keittiössä -- in the kitchen

innostuin tänään varhaiskaalista. se on niin mieto ja raikas. tein tänään lasagnen rinnalle tavallista kevyemmän ja kermaviilisen coleslawn tällä ohjeella (paitsi en laittanut chiliä). suosittelen! today i became enthusiastic about spring cabbage. it's so mild and fresh. i made today a lighter and more sour cream like coleslaw to be eaten with lasagna. i recommend! tell me if you want the recipe in english.

ehdin touhuta keittiössä kun E nukkui pari tuntia. hänellä on kuumetta. muita oireita ei ole. yliväsynyt? muut miehet ulkoilivat. ihailin vihanneksia. oli kivaa touhuta. i had plenty of time to work in the kitchen because E slept for couple of hours. he has some temperature. no other symptoms. maybe exhausted? other men spent most of the day outside. i admired the look of the vegetables. it was nice to cook.

huomenna pullotan raparperilimettisiman. tosi helppo tehdä jos on kierrekorkillisia lasipulloja. uusi kokeilu. jospa vaikka saisimme tästä mukavan juhannusjuoman. toivottavasti myös hellejuoman! tomorrow i'm going to bottle the rhubarb-lime sima (drink). it's very simple to make it if you have glass bottles with screw-on caps. let's see, we might will get a nice middle summer celebration drink out of this. hopefully also a hot weather drink!

seikkailu -- an adventure

me oltiin pari päivää tampereella. M tykästyi kaupunkiin ja kyllähän siellä minunkin mielestäni on aina kiva käydä. tosi harvoin vaan siellä ollaan liikenteessä ja harmikseni ompelukoneliike mansen tikki jäi visiteeraamatta kun lauantain olin isäni puolen sukujuhlassa (kuulun johtokuntaan) ja koko perjantai hurahti särkänniemessä.

we were in tampere for two days. M said he quite liked the city and i also enjoy visiting tampere except we go there very rarely. unfortunately i didn't have a chance to visit a sewing machine place called mansen tikki because i was at my father's-side family reunion (i'm one of the board members) and the whole friday was used in an amusement park called särkänniemi.

tykästyin särkänniemeen enemmän kuin linnanmäkeen. paljon hauskoja laitteita rauhoittavassa vesistömaisemassa, delfinaario ja näkötorni. paitsi aika tyyristä huvia tuo kaikki nykyään on. i realized that särkänniemi is nicer than linnanmäki (in helsinki). lots of fun equipment in a calming lake scenery, dolphinarium and an observation tower. it was quite expensive fun though.

jalkoja ilmassa. toinen jännittävän näköinen laite oli sellainen missä mahalleen makuuasennossa pää menosuuntaan kiidetään lujaa sinne tänne. some legs in the air. another exciting looking apparatus was the one in which you lay on your belly and it takes moves you around very fast.

jossain vaiheessa tajusin että hymyilen kokoajan kun katselen meidän pieniä laitteissa. sitten aloin seuraamaan M:n onnellisia ilmeitä ja muita vanhempia, jotka kuvasivat omiaan. at some point i realized that i'm constantly smiling while watching our little ones on the rides. then i started to follow M's happy facial expressions and some parents that were photographing their own ones.

delfiineillä ja niiden kouluttajilla täytyy olla ihan erityinen ystävyyssuhde. sen todisti hieno näytös. hellyttäviä otuksia. muistan veera-nimisen delfiinin lapsuudestani. siellä hän vieläkin oli. nyt 32 vuotiaana äitinä. dolphins and their trainers must have a very special friendship. it was demonstrated by this show. i remember a dolphin called veera from my childhood and there she still was. now as a 32 year-old mother.

aluksi D ja S oli laitteissa aika peruslukemilla ja esim. possujunassa S sanoi vihaisena: "äiti! onko tämä vauvoille?" kun siirryimme vähän hurjempiin laitteisiin ja kummitusjunaan niin hymy alkoi ilmestyä kasvoille. tämä oli ehkä hurjin kyyti, jossa D ja S oli. first D and S had quite serious and bored looking faces on the rides and for example at the pig train S angrily asked me: "mom! is this for babies?" when we continued to a little more crazy machines and to the ghost train the smile came on their faces. this was maybe the craziest one they tried out.

yövyimme ahlmanin kartanon vintillä neljän hengen huoneessa. tilasimme ekstrapatjan E:lle. ihastuttava maalaismiljöö. ostimme tilapuodista raparperiä ja vastaleivotun rievän. we stayed in the attic of ahlmanin kartano (a mansion). the country side miljöö was attractive. we bought some rhubarb and bread from the farm store.

vintin lattia oli ihana (S:n jalat). the floor of the attic was lovely (S's feet).

tänään isi seikkaili lasten kanssa muuminäyttelyssä tampereen kirjastossa. today daddy and the children had an adventure in the city. first in the moomin exhibition/museum in the library building.

ja finlaysonin ja vapriikin alueilla sekä keskustorilla, missä oli ollut tosi hienoja kansantanssiesityksiä suomesta ja muualta. and then in the old finlayson and vapriikki area and in the main market square where they had some really cool folk dance shows from finland and from some other countries.

valmisteluja -- preparations

tänään me vaan ulkoiltiin ja ulkoiltiin. aamulla sain vähän järjestettyä D:n ja S:n taideteoksia lattioilta pois ja purettua matkalaukun (jossa mun tavaroita) tyhjäksi iltaa varten. aion joku päivä vielä käydä läpi meidän kaapit. huutavat järjestelemistä. today we just stayed and stayed outside. in the morning i organized D's and S's art work away from the floor and emptied a suitcase (full of my stuff) for tonight. i'm planning on going through our cupboards one day as well. they are calling to get in order.

tämän verran jäi banaanikakkua jäljelle huomista retkeämme varten. this much banana bread left for our little vacation trip tomorrow.

aloimme lukemaan peppi pitkätossua risto räppääjän perään. varsinainen räppääjätyttö. we started to read pippi longstocking after risto räppääjä. what a girl she is.

E lainasi tämän kirjan. S pinokkion ja puppeluukkukirjan. E borrowed this book. S pinocchio and a spot book.

D:n valitsemaa autolukemista. merirosvokirja. palaan linjoille taas seikkailumme päätyttyä. some readings for the car trip chosen by D. a pirate book. i will come back to you after our adventures.

häissä -- in the wedding

kuninkaallisia tuliaisia. royal souvenirs.

näitä syödessä tuntuu melkein kuin itse olisi jotenkin osallinen hääjuhlaan. niinkuin se mukamas olisi minunkin asia. onnea vaan! while having these you almost feel like you're somehow part of the wedding. like it would be my business. congratulations!

ruotsalaisia näkkileipätikkuja. nampsis. paljon seesamin- ja unikonsiemeniä. swedish crisp bread. yummy. lots of sesame and poppy seeds.

tunnelmia -- holiday bits and pieces

ihan kivasti loma alkanut on... the holiday has started quite nicely...

olen innoissaan: kesä, loma, aurinko... jihuu! i'm excited: summer, holiday, sun... yipee!

ylppärit -- graduation

oli ihana mennä tänään ylioppilasjuhliin pitkästä aikaa ja varsinkin perheeseen, jonka lapsia hoidin aikoinaan aika monta vuotta. kaikki kolme nyt jo isoja, mutta silti tuntuvat niin läheisille. tämä uusi ylioppilas aikoo luovalle alalle, joten annoin hänelle ystäväni kanssa välineet oman ex libriksen tekoon. tuossa pussukassa on se terävä osa ja linoleumin alla pino huokoista paperia.

it was lovely to go today to a graduation party for the first time in a long time and especially to the family whose children i took care of for quite many years at some point. all three are already big but still they feel so near to me. this new graduated girl is going to go into a creative field so i gave her (with a friend of mine) some equipment to make her own ex libris. the sharp part is in the paper bag and the porous papers are under the linoleum.

mua huvittaa tuo luontokirjainnostus. puulajikirja ulkona matkassa mukana taas. it makes me smile to see the nature book enthusiasm. the tree book came along again to outside.

tein eilen jääkappiin valmiiksi kakun tätä iltaa varten. tuli niin hyvää! ohje on marianne crush -pussissa (leivontahyllyt kaupassa). valitsin marjoiksi vadelman (pakaste) ja pohjaan dominokeksien keksiosat (2 pötkylää). kätevää kun kakun voi tehdä etukäteen.

yesterday i made a cake for tonight. it was so good! the recipe is on the marianne crush -package (from the baking section in the store). i chose raspberry for the berry layer and domino biscuits for the bottom part. it's so convenient that you can make the cake beforehand.

retki ja synttärit -- a trip and a birthday party

meidän ystävä lapsineen ja me tehtiin retki kauniiseen mustasaareen. sinne on joka kesä päästävä. lounaskin maistui kaikille. tänä kesänä me ajateltiin mennä koko perheen telttaretkelle jollekin saarelle. kaunissaareen? vinkkejä, kokemuksia? mietin olisko se ylipäänsä kivaa vai ihan kaoottista ja hikistä.

today a friend of mine, their children and we made a trip to a beautiful island called mustasaari. we love going there every summer. the lunch was liked by everybody. let's see if this summer we would try out camping as a whole family on one of the islands. maybe on kaunissaari? any hints or experiences? i'm still wondering if it would be nice or totally chaotic and sweaty.

puulaivoissa on sitä jotakin. there is a special feeling to travel in a wooden boat.

illalla leikit sujui niin hyvin että en lastenohjelmista maininnut mitään. olen viimeaikoina koittanut vähentää pikkuisten tv:n katselua kun aamuisin katsovat niin se melkein olis tarpeeksi. S järjesti sami-koiralle 6 v. synttärit. kysyi olisiko laulu feliz navidad jossakin. löytyihän se netistä, you tubesta ja se soi synttäreillä kerta toisensa jälkeen.

in the evening the playings went together so well that i didn't mention anything about the childrens' tv programmes. lately i have tried to decrease the amount of tv they watch since they do it anyway every morning and i feel it's enough. S organized a six year birthday to his sami dog. he asked if we have a song called feliz navidad on cd. we found it on the internet, you tube, and it was played over and over again in the birthday party.

sami ei näytä kovin innostuneelle bileistä. sami doesn't look very enthusiastic about the celebration :)
